The Endless Summer is a sure to be a band name you will hear quite often in the near future. This Springfield, Missouri, group of friends came together years ago in pursuit of their dreams of creating music. After a few small changes, they changed their name, revamped their sound, and began again under The Endless Summer, in which they are gaining quite the fanbase. These guys have a busy year ahead of them, with a recently released music video and their sophomore EP slated to drop in less than two weeks. Read on for a short interview Substream did with Nick, their singer, and see what’s in store next!
How would you describe your sound?
We all really take pride in the fact that you cannot generically classify our sound. Sure, if you had to categorize it we would have to say that we fall into the “pop-rock” genre, but we really have tried to branch ourselves out from the norm. I’ve [Nick Bacon, singer] always been told that I have a unique voice, and we really like to exploit that in our music. I take advantage of catchy melodies by putting a lot of emotion into what I sing. On the opposite side of things we really try and harmonize the catchy flow of pop melodies with the aggressiveness of rocking guitar parts. Our upcoming EP Daydream even reflects back to some 90′s alt-rock. Heck, you can even hear some country-feeling licks in a couple of the melodies!
What are your plans for this coming year?
We’ve taken a lot of time to try and build up the new project that is The Endless Summer. We released the project in front of a crowd of 2,200 fans last April when we opened up for Jack’s Mannequin, and we really focused a lot on reaching out to people via social networking. We’ve been fortunate enough to make friends all over the world and those same friends just happen to dig our music. This year is going to be all about pushing out as much music as we can to those friends of ours. We are really hoping to not only write and release as much as we can, but also to get out on the road as much as possible to finally put faces to some of those names.
What would you say has been the most fun/crazy/memorable tour or show?
A band is really like a family. Every band says that but it’s incredible how true it is on every level. We are able to share stories and experiences with each other that we probably wouldn’t even share with our closest family. Beyond that, it’s amazing how much fun we are able to have with other bands as well. We always feel welcome wherever we are on the road and there’s always a party anywhere we go. That being said, we all really feel like twelve year olds on the road together. We play stupid games, we call “shotgun” every time we need to go somewhere, and we hash out arguments by wrestling each other sometimes. Occasionally these same wrestling matches can end with a person being left on the side of the road somewhere. Just saying.
What is one thing you think people should know about The Endless Summer?
I think that we want people to know that we are all in this for the right reasons. We have all been in musical projects since early junior high, and we haven’t spent this much time doing something just because we are out to make money. We are trying to do something different and we are trying to make a career while doing so. None of us could have been prepared for the people we’ve met so far or the experiences that we’ve already had on the level that we are currently on. You know you are going to gain fans but it is hard to perceive that these fans will become such great friends. Without them you have no success, your music is just your hobby. We want people to know that we are writing for them, we are hoping to relate to them, and we are hoping that we can make friends along the way.
